Carolyn O'Dell, LCSW
Social Worker
I am a licensed clinical therapist and earned my Master's Degree in Social Work from Salisbury University. My passion for clinical work has been greatly informed by my own personal therapy journey. None of us travel this world without suffering loss, pain and disappointment, trauma, sadness and grief. All of these afflictions, and the stories we repeatedly tell ourselves about them, greatly inform the ways we perceive and navigate the world. Initially our childhood coping strategies serve us well; we survive. But we are meant to do so much more than just survive. Your story matters! The unique attributes you bring to the world's table matter!
I am certainly not the expert in your life, but I can humbly journey alongside you, inviting you to curiosity around the profound mysteries that exist and what might and might not necessarily be yours to carry and own. I can help you peel back the masks and layers until you find “real.” I specialize in treating grief and complicated grief, anxiety and depression, serious illness, major life transitions, co-dependency and unhealthy caregiving, unhealthy martyrdom, relationship struggles and divorce, and bipolar disorder. There are many trustworthy psychological theories and modalities, but life is far too complicated for just a few. Thus, my therapeutic approach is eclectic and existential, gleaning principles and practices from Narrative and Existential Therapies, CBT and DBT, Trauma-Informed Therapies, Feminist Therapy, Jungian and Humanistic Therapies, Solution-Focused Therapy and more.
